McFall named volunteer of year

Trudy McFall, of Annapolis, a longtime volunteer and pioneer in the affordable housing field, has been selected for the third annual Anne Arundel County Volunteer of the Year Award.

This award is presented to an individual with a proven record of volunteerism who, through time, talent, caring and individual resources, has demonstrated his or her outstanding commitment to the community.

In Ms. McFall's honor, a $1,000 check, will be presented to Homes for America at the Celebrate Philanthropy Luncheon on Nov. 17 at the Sheraton Annapolis Hotel.

She has been chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Annapolis Housing Authority for the past three years and had led it in progressive new policies. As president from 1995 to 2002 of the Anne Arundel Affordable Housing Coalition, she created a strong active coalition of more than 100 individuals and organizations to promote affordable housing in the county. She continues as a board member and committee chairman.

Ms. McFall also is a longtime board member of the Hospice of the Chesapeake Foundation; "Big Buddy" volunteer at Camp Nabe; foster parent and kennel volunteer at the Annapolis SPCA; chairman of the Legislative Committee, Maryland Affordable Housing Coalition; and member of the Annapolis Housing and Community Development Committee.

She is a former board member of Arundel Habitat for Humanity and chairman of the Mayor's Housing Committee.

Along with Philanthropists of the Year, Tom and Peggy Baldwin, Ms. McFall will be honored at the fifth annual awards luncheon to celebrate philanthropy in the county. A reception will be held at 11.30 a.m. with luncheon at noon. The event is presented by Kaiser Permanente in partnership with the Community Foundation of the Chesapeake and the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Maryland Chapter. It ties in with National Philanthropy Day.

Nonprofit organizations may bring their board members, volunteers, staff and favorite philanthropist to lunch. Tickets are $40.
