Capital-Gazette Political Notes: EDITOR'S NOTE: Political Notes is a periodic compilation of announcements. Trudy McFall this week announced that she leads in fundraising in the quest for the mayor's seat in November 2009. Her latest campaign fund filings show she has a sizable lead over all other candidates seeking office next year. Ms. McFall, former chairman of the Annapolis Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, raised a little over $56,000 since she formed her campaign committee in August 2007, according to the July 1 campaign fund reports. She also had a sizable lead over the next highest fundraising candidate in available cash after expenses and obligations, with $39,159 in net funds. A fundraising committee for current Mayor Ellen O. Moyer raised the next highest amount with $29,940 in gross receipts and $11,410 in net cash available. All current aldermen, except Ms. Moyer, are seeking re-election to the council. Scott Bowling, Frank Bradley, Zina Pierre, Chris Fox, Debbie McKerrow and Karen Jennings are also seeking public office in next year's city election. Her fundraising efforts have targeted mainly family and friends, she said. "I started by calling my mother and she was probably the hardest one," Ms. McFall said. She is the founder of the nonprofit groups Homes for She said her goal was to raise $5,000 a month and has actually exceeded her expectations, and her ultimate goal is to raise $100,000. Notable top donors to Ms. McFall's campaign include Annapolis Towne Centre
and Mark K. Joseph, founder of the Shelter Group, a low-income housing advocacy
company based in Alderman Sam Shropshire, D-Ward 7, was not able to file a campaign fund report due to flooding in his home in May. Mr. Shropshire said in a letter filed with the city clerk that he expects to recover his financial records and file a report by the end of this month. The next campaign fund filing is July 2009. --- Compiled by staff writers Barbara McLaughlin and Erin Cox from staff and wire reports. Published
